FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What type of ammunition should I use with the targets from Reaction Targets to ensure the safety and longevity of the targets?
When using targets from Reaction Targets, it is crucial to avoid using steel core ammunition or steel shot. Shooting steel core ammunition or steel shot at the targets can cause significant damage and increase the risk of dangerous ricochets. We highly recommend using ONLY lead core ammunition instead. Lead core ammunition fragments upon impact, causing minimal damage to the target while ensuring a safer shooting experience. By following these guidelines, you can maintain the integrity of your targets and ensure safety during use. Best Ammo for Steel Targets Lead-core, full metal jacket (FMJ): Ideal for most steel targets. For pistols, common choices like 9mm FMJ or .45 ACP FMJ are great. Copper-plated bullets: Also safe and gentle on steel. Frangible ammunition: Designed to disintegrate on impact, reducing ricochet risk, especially useful for close-range shooting.
  • What are the recommended distances for using Reaction Targets with different firearms?
At Reaction Targets, safety and optimal performance are our top priorities. For rifle use, we recommend setting up AR500 Steel Targets at a minimum distance of 100 yards or greater. When using a pistol, the targets should be positioned at least 10 yards away. These guidelines ensure not only your safety but also the durability and effectiveness of our targets, allowing you to have a more satisfying shooting experience. Remember, always adhere to these distances to maximize both safety and target longevity.

At Reaction Targets, we offer AR500 steel targets in three thicknesses to accommodate various shooting needs: 1. 1/4" Thick AR500: These targets are suitable for rimfire and pistol calibers up to .45 ACP. They provide excellent durability and longevity when distance guidelines are followed. It's crucial to avoid using steel bullets, as it will bounce off and pose safety risks, as well as damage the target. 2. 3/8” Thick AR500: These targets are designed to handle all pistol cartridges and rifles up to .308 caliber, with an impact speed of less than 3,000 fps. It's crucial to avoid using steel bullets, as it will bounce off and pose safety risks, as well as damage the target. 3. 1/2” thick AR500: These targets can accommodate all pistol cartridges and rifle rounds, including powerful ammunition such as the .338 Lapua, as long as the impact velocity is below 3,000 feet per second (fps). It's crucial to avoid using steel bullets, as it will bounce off and pose safety risks, as well as damage the target. For rifle use, we recommend setting up AR500 Steel Targets at a minimum distance of 100 yards or greater. When using a pistol, the targets should be positioned at least than 10 yards away. These specifications ensure safe and effective use of our AR500 steel targets, catering to various firearms and shooting activities.
